We would like to say a massive thank you to all of the participants of the "walk for life costa brava" for making last Sunday such a fantastic success. Despite of the bad weather and the change of route you all came along and gave us your support.

The activities after the walk were a great success this year. A big thank you to everyone who had a stall and raised lots of money for the charity. The donations given by the local businesses of Estartit and Torroella made the raffle and tombola a big success! Congratulations to all of you who won lots of prizes!

We would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who went out of their way to help organize this year's event. We really appreciate all the help that we can get, so a big thank you to all of those people who helped out before the day and on the day!

The final totals are not in yet as we are still collecting sponsor money but we will keep you posted! The just giving site is also raising a lot of money this year for Cancer research UK. www.justgiving.com/walkforlifecostabrava2011

If you still have sponsor money to give us then you can pay it into the bank account (remember to put your name) or you can hand it in to Julie at Kings Property Management office in Estartit.

Tots, des del “Walk for Life Costa Brava” i la Fundació Oncolliga Girona agradaria donar les gràcies a les botigues i empreses de L'Estartit i Torroella de montgri per les donacions que van fer per a la nostra rifa i tómbola. Diumenge 18 de Septembre va ser un gran èxit; vam tenir 140 participants, malgrat el mal temps.

El sorteig, la tómbola i totes les activitats que vam realitzar a la plaça de la Llevantina, després de la caminada, van obtenir un bon resultat. Hem recaptat un munt de diners per Oncolliga Girona. Encara estem recollint els diners recaptats i no comptem amb un total final encara, però, estem esperant donar al voltant de 4000 euros a la caritat.

Moltes gràcies de nou per la vostre col.laboració i esperem que puguem comptar amb el vostre suport en el futur.

Well, Everything is ready for the morning. All we need now is for lots of you to come along and walk and for the weather to be kind to us! The Estartit forecast is for sun and cloud in the morning and the bad weather in the afternoon (any time after 2pm is okay by us!!).

Remember that after the walk we have lots of activities going on in the Plaça de la Llevantina.

Order of events:

Estartit Port:

8.45 h - 09.45 h - Inscriptions and registration - collect T-shirts, number etc.

10.00h - the walk starts

11.00 h - Cava and fundraising activities in the Plaça de LLevantina

Activities include:

Tombola with more than 100 prizes, face painting, Cakes and snacks, Booksn etc.

12.00 - 13.00 h Dancing with Kay B and L'Estartit club de Baille - country and Zumba demonstration with a chance to have a go!

13.00h - the Big prize raffle

The t-shirts for the walk for life participants can be collected from Saturday 17 th September from Kings Property Management Sl (C/ de la Gola, 25). The office is open from 09.00 - 13.00 & 16.00 h - 19.00 h. We have sizes Small (for children), Medium, Large and Extra Large.

The T-shirts are new for 2011!! You can collect your t-shirt on the morning of the walk. You can call us on 972 75 10 49 to reserve your size or send us an email to info@walkforlifecostabrava.com

No oblideu de registrar per la caminada abans de diumenge. Podeu pagar la seva quota d'inscripció 10 euros a La Caixa o podeu pagar en efectiu a l'oficina de KINGS (C/ de la Gola, 25, L'Estartit). Si no podeu venir a L'Estartit abans de diumenge només contacteu amb nosaltres per correu electrònic. Les samarretes estan disponibles en les talles S /nen, M, L, XL. Fes l'inscripció abans de diumenge i podeu reservar la talla .

Podeu venir al matí de la caminada per fer l'inscripció - 12 euros (abans de 18/09 només heu de pagar 10 euros). si pogués tenir el canvi correcte per tal d'estalviar temps. Els nens són benvinguts a venir i fer la caminada amb permís dels pares. Si volen una samarreta demanem una donació de 5 euros.

Si voleu imprimir una fotografia a la samarreta podeu recollir-la el dissabte 17 de setembre a Agencia KINGS a L'Estartit (C/ de la Gola 25). Un altre opció és; imprimiu una fotografia en paper i fixeu a la samarreta. Tindrem marcadors disponibles si voleu escriure un missatge a la seva samarreta el diumenge al matí.

Recordeu que la caminada no es tracta només de recaptar diners,però és un dia per recordar als nostres estimats que hem perdut amb el càncer i per caminar junts en suport d'aquestes persones que estan lluitant contra la malaltia o per mostrar el nostre respecte a aquells que han vençut el càncer! Cada any que fem la caminada algú més ha estat tocat o directament afectades per la malaltia. Aquesta és la raó per la qual fer la caminada cada any. Esperem que vingueu i uneix amb nosaltres!

Don't forget to register for the walk before Sunday. You can pay your 10 euros entry fee into La Caixa or you can pay cash at the Kings office in Estartit. If you can't get to Estartit before Sunday just let us know by email that you want to register and we will add you to the list. The T-shirts are available in sizes S/child, Medium, large, extra large. You can reserve your size if you register before Sunday.

You can come along on the morning of the walk and register for the entry fee of 12 euros. T-shirts will be a first come first served basis with the sizes so get down to the port early. We will be registering from 08.45 h - 09.45h.
Children are welcome to come along and do the walk with parental permission. If they want a t-shirt we ask for a 5 euro

We will have marker pens available if you want to write a message on your t-shirt on Sunday morning.

Remember the walk is not just about raising money but it is a day to remember our loved ones that we have lost to cancer and to walk together in support of those people who are fighting the disease or to show our respect to those who have beaten cancer! Sadly every year we do the walk someone else that we know has been touched or directly affected by the disease. This is the reason we do the walk every year. We hope that you will come and join us.

Well we are on the final countdown now to the fourth Walk for Life. The entries and the donations are coming in now so we hope Sunday will be a big success! HOWEVER, we haven't got many men registered for the walk yet!! COME ON BOYS register now don't be shy!!

We are looking for face painting volunteers for Sunday, we will provide the face paints and the faces we just need someone to help do the painting!!

Well, here we are again getting ready for the IV Walk for Life Costa Brava. 18 th September 2011 in L'Estartit.

This year MEN are welcome to join us!! So boys get your walking shoes on and your registration forms downloaded because we need you!!

You can enter by downloading the form from the website and paying your entry fee of 10 euros into our account (details on the form) or you can call into KINGS PROPERTY MANAGEMENT office in L'Estartit to pay in cash and hand in your form.

If you can't get over to Estartit before the day of the walk you can still pay your money into the account. Please send us an email to let us know you have paid as this really helps with our organising for the day. If you prefer you can come along and register from 08.45 h on the day of the walk at the start point. (NB: this year to register on the day is 12 euros).

Well ladies a great big pat on the back for all of us as yet again we have beat the "crisis" and raised a fantastic 4100 euros for Fundaciò Oncolliga Girona. We really cannot thank every single one of you enough that donated, took part or came along to support us for our 3rd walk.

For a small fishing village we have managed to raise a lot of money over the last three years. Just as importantly we have hopefully helped spread the word of this fantastic organisation which, with the help of all it's volunteers, does a great job providing support to cancer sufferers and their families in our local region.

Well the total is nearly in. It is currently at over 4000 euros to give to the charity after all the expenses - t-shirts, printing costs etc. There are a couple more payments to go into the account and before the end of this week we will have the final total.

We would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who took part in the event and everyone who donated or raised money.

For those of you ladies that are here in Estartit or a little further afield then the next money raising event is the "Chics for charity" dinner, which is held annually and organised by Jane Collier, to raise money for different charities. This year all the monies raised will also go to Fundació Oncolliga Girona.

So come along and join us on the 3rd December 2010 at Roberts restaurant.

The walk for life Costa Brava 2010 was a FANTASTIC day. Not only was the sun shining but the turn out was incredible nearly 150 ladies turned up to walk!!!!

We set off slightly late and headed off along the promenade. The last part of the prom is closed due to problems with the beach (or lack of it) so we took a small detour and headed towards the pit stop at Camping Medas. A new addition this year. We were warmly welcomed by the campiste and offered cold water and iced apples - a welcome relief on such a hot day. We were also given gifts from the campiste. After a short break we continued and headed back to the promenade and along to the Plaça de la Llevantina. We were welcomed by the men who had done a smashing job at setting up the stalls ready for our arrival. For those of us who wanted it we were given a complimentary glass of cold cava in Harveys bar opposite.

The cake stalls were as always a great success and the tombola was great thanks to all the shops of Estartit and Torroella who donated such fab gifts. After a little rest it was time for our Line dancing Lesson/demonstration by Kay. Line dancers from her dance classes all over the costa Brava strutted their stuff and a few of us tried to keep up!! Kay did a great job and dazzled on the stage.

After the dancing it was time to release the Balloons to Heaven and head off ourselves to Harveys for a well deserved drink.

The day was such a great success and we really cannot thank everyone who was involved enough from the walkers to the sponsors.

Almost there!! Just a few final preparations to do and all will be ready for tomorrows walk! All pray for sunshine!! The forecast is good but as Estartit seems to have it's own weather we will have to wait and see!!! Come rain or shine we will be walking tomorrow!!!

If you haven't registered please come down early and register. We are expecting a lot of people to turn up in the morning so we will be busy. We really want to be away by 10.00 h so DON'T BE LATE!

We are intending to record the event and take lots of photos but please feel free to send us your photos and video clips (we want to make a video with music to put on the website so all recordings will be welcomed!).

If you haven't yet got your tshirt we have them all down at the start of the walk. We also have marker pens if you want to write a message on your tshirt!

All children doing the walk can do so free of charge but if they want a tshirt we have kids tshirts for 5 € each. Please let us know when you check in if you have any children walking!

Well ladies, Let's hope tomorrow is as good a day as they last two years have been. Remember why we are doing it...and think of our lost or brave loved ones who have fought and lost or are still fighting this dreadful diesease!

Only 3 days until the walk and everything is go, go, go!!!!! Local business are being extremely generous and we have had some great donations. We have had a big response in the last few days and although a lot of people are registering in advance we are expecting a large amount of people to register on the day. If you haven't registered in advance then come down to the port as early as possible (we will be there from 8.30 am onwards) so that we can start the walk on time at 10.00 am!

We are delighted to have Kay and her line dancers coming along to give a demonstration after the walk. We also have our very own make-up artist, Jessica Harvey, who will be doing make overs on the day.

Among the other stalls we have new and second hand books, the ever popular tombola (with some great prizes donated by the generous businesses of Estartit and Torroella!), the cake stall, clothes stall, Balloons to heaven, Bric-a-brac, Oncolliga charity stall, face painting for the kids and make overs for the ladies!

We just need you all to cross you fingers and hope for good weather!!

We will update you all again before the big day. Keep collecting those sponsors and remember every little help.

There will be plenty of jobs to do on the day so anyone who wants to help out please let us know.

Only 1 week to go until the walk and we are busy with the final preparations. Thank you to all of those who have already registered and for those of you who haven't yet got your inscription form don't forget to do it this week!!

We still have space for those of you who want to have a fund raising stall. Men especially come and take part and help us out by holding a fun stall stall (remember those school summer fetes??? Welly wanging, coconut shy etc etc). If you have some old books that you would like to donate we are doing a second hand book stall so you can bring them along on the day. We are also doing a cake stall so if you fancy making a contribution and baking a few buns or a cake everything is welcome!!

We are also looking for raffle/tombola prizes so if you have anything you would like to donate you can bring it along or get in touch with us before the day!!

This year we won't be giving out the walk for life medals. We ordered enough for the first two years and decided that the money would be better going direct to the charities rather than spending the funds on medals. However, there will still be a momento of the day and of course a cold glass of cava for all the participants.

If the children want to take part we have some kids tshirts available (5 € each but no entry fee).

A few people (men) have mentioned that they would like to take part in the walk and that it is not fair to be only for ladies!

We originally followed the format of the race for life UK which is a successful ladies only event held every year all over the UK. This being our third year we asked previous participants what they thought and most of us liked the fact that it is something for us girls - a walk and a gossip!!! If the men took part who would look after the kids so we could do it??? Only joking! The other consideration is the distance of the current non-competitive, manageable walk? Would it be too easy for men? Would we need an alternative route for men and women which is more challenging? These are all things that we have considered and have ideas about but we will leave it up to you to decide. On the day of the walk 2010 we will have a vote to decide whether the walk for life 2011 should be open to men as well as women.

Well summer is speeding past us and September is here! The entry forms and sponsor forms can be downloaded from the website from tomorrow 1st September and you can register for the walk by calling into the Kings Property Management Office (under the Blau Mar apartments in Estartit) with your entry form and fee of 10 € in cash or you can pay the money into our account (details on the entry form) and either hand in the form to Kings office or advise us by email (we can collect the original on the day of the walk.

Once you have paid your entry fee we will reserve your tshirt for you and you can collect it from Kings Office or the tourist information centre or on the day of the walk (if you pre pay then we will reserve the tshirt for you).

You can just come along on the day of the walk and enter. However, we cannot guarantee a tshirt unless you inform us in advance that you will be taking part.

Remember if you collect your thisrt in advance you can print photos or messages onto the tshirt.

We still need lots of people to help out on the day with stalls so if you want to have a cake stall, a bric a brac stall, books, toys, or a fun kids stall please let us know and we will reserve you a place. If you don't want to have a stall yourself you can still donate raffle prizes, cakes for the cake stall etc. Every little helps us to raise as much money as possible.

So come on ladies lets get registering!!!

Well the countdown has started. We have just under 7 weeks until the 3rd walk for life. We are busy putting together the posters, leaflets and t-shirts all ready for distribution in the next couple of weeks.

Any help with distribution around the Costa Brava and beyond would be greatly appreciated as with 7 kids between us both we usually have our hands full! Please email us or contact Andrea (639135283) or Emma (629858182).

The walk will start and finish this year at the new Plaça de la Llevantina in l'Estartit (opposite Harveys bar and next to the childrens park on the beach). We will once again have a selection of "summer fete style" stalls in this square with all proceeds going to the charity Fundació Oncolliga Girona. The past two years the stalls have been a great success with face painting, cake stalls, tombola, childrens books and lots more.

If you would like to have a stall then please contact us ASAP. Remember it is non profit making and all proceeds must be donated to the charity.

All entry forms can be downloaded at the beginning of September and the entry fee can be paid in advance into our bank account or to Kings Property Management office in L'Estartit or the Tourist information centre in Estartit. Entry money can be paid on the day of the walk but please let us know that you are taking part so that we can reserve a t-shirt for you.

We are also looking for corporate sponsorship to try and cover our costs (enabling us to donate all your entry fees and sponsorship direct to the charity). If you have a business and would like to donate please contact us via email.

An amazing 4438.34 euros has been raised to donate to Fundació Onocolliga Girona.
We are over the moon with the totals and you did all the hard work with your sponsorhip money. We weren't expecting to raise so much due to the "Crisis" but it just goes to show that everyone is touched by cancer and knows the difference all donations can make to those fighting the disease and their families.

We are happy to say that the walk for life costa brava 2009 was a great success. The sun was shining and the number of participants was fantastic. A total of 103 of us walked which is far more than we ever expected when we first had the idea.

More importantly a lot of loved ones were remembered on what was a great day.

The Balloons to Heaven were also a great success and a fitting end to a great morning.

A big thanks to all that had stalls which raised in excess of 500 euros.

The sponsor money is coming in now and we still have 4 more weeks in which to collect everything.

Our chosen charity this year Fundació Onocolliga Girona were also great organising the back packs, water and apples and bringing with them lots of their own supporters.

August is now almost over and the 1st September is here already. Dowload you entry details from the website and register for the walk from tomorrow. You can pay your money direct into the bank account or you can pay in cash at the Kings Property Management office. Once you have completed your form and paid your entry fee of just 10 euros then you can collect your T-shirt from the Tourist information office in Estartit or from the Kings Property Management Office (C/ Freu - under the Blau Mar apartment complex). If you took part last year and still have your t-shirt you can reuse it (as I will be doing) any extra t-shirts we have we will sell them on the day of the walk with the money going to the charity.

Also on the day we are going to have a balloon lauch. My 6 year old daughter Ellie came up with the name "balloons to heaven". We will have a selection of helium filled balloons in the different colours of all the different cancer charities. You can make a donation for the balloon and write the name of your loved one lost to the diesease. We will then launch all the balloons together after the walk.

Does anyone know where we can get helium from in the local area????????

Well not long until the second walk for life costa Brava. Can you believe it is almost a year since the last one? Where does the time go?

What's new for this year? Well... a couple of things firstly the charity that we are supporting here is Catalunya. We have decided to donate the money raised to El fundació onocolliga Girona. This charity supports and helps those fighting cancer and their families here in the province of Girona. They help in many many ways from offering practical help with things like wheelchairs and beds for those who are ill, they offer help around the home, they have two apartments next to the Josep Trueta hospital in Girona which ralatives can use to sleep, rest, cook etc. when visiting family members in hospital. They also offer pysiotherapy and counciling, limfatic drainage and they also run educational programmes teaching the youger generation how to prevent cancer. The second change is the walking route. This year we have two routes - on the same as last year 5km and the second a longer route (which is an added approx. 2 km to the original course). You can choose the route you prefer.

Oh yes and we have also decided to reduce the entry fee - we have all been affected by the "Crisis" or "Credit crunch" so we hope this will encourage more people to join us.

Once again we plan to have "fete" style stalls at the finish of the course so WE NEED YOU! If you would like to have a stall (cakes, books, toys, nik naks, etc..) please contatc us and we will reserve you a place. REMEMBER that the monies you take must be donated to the event.

We also need everyone to spread the word about the event. With out the resident magazine it is a little more difficult to get the word out. If any one would like some posters or flyers please let us know and we would be very happy to give you some to put up and around the province.

Here are some photos from our event last year. we are hoping that this year will be as successful as last year. We had 76 ladies, 1 man in drag and a dog take part in the 5km walk last year so with a bit of luck we can match or beat that number this year.

The total monies that we have raised (as of today 27th October 2008) is
6549,88 euros!!!!!! This money will go to AECC - Contra el cancer Catalunya

This amount is AFTER our costs (tshirts, medals, advertising).

We hav also raised 2404.00 pounds via the justgiving website which has gone directly to CANCER RESEARCH UK.

We still have a little bit of money to come in her in Spain before we hand over the money to the Spanish Charity.

Well we have nearly collected all of our sponsor monies in. If you have not yet paid in your money then please can you either drop it into the Kings office or pay it into the walk for life account. We CANNOT BELIEVE the amount of money that you have all collected it is over whelming. We will confirm the totals at the end of this week but in the UK via just giving we have raised 2384.00 pounds which is fantastic. We do not have the final totals here yet but it is already over 5000 euros !!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!

Well our event was a total success.! We would like to thank everyone that took part today and to everyone who helped raise money by having a stall. We would also like to thank all of our helpers who ensured that everything ran smoothly.

A big thank you to Eduard Villa for joining us to hand out the medals and a BIG thank you to Harvey's bar for the cava that they supplied.

We would also like to thank Sabina Plaja from the Centre Serveis in Estartit for her help in organising the event. All of the shops and business in Estartit and Torroella de Montgri that donated prizes for the tombola also deserve a big thank you. A thank you also goes out to AECC representatives who helped us and supplied us with bracelets and balloons etc.

...We would mainly like to thank all 77 participants as without you all today would not have happened!

We hope that as well as enjoying the day that the walk gave you all time to think of the loved ones that you have lost to cancer - I know it certainly did for us. Also well done to the cancer survivors that took part today and for those of you walking in support or honour of someone battling this disease.

We are all very excited and cannot believe that the walk is happening tomorrow!! We would like to remind everyone that you can still enter in the morning betweeen 09.00 - 09.45 h at the port in Estartit. We have 71 confirmed entries with a few more definates turning up tomorrow. WE CANNOT believe the response we have had to this. We expebcted to get 25 - 30 people MAX. so this is fantastic. We would like to take this opportunity to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone that has entered and/or supported/donated to this event.

We have lots of other activities going on on the street outside Harveys/Roberts so if you are not taking part there is lots to do whilst we are pounding the pavements!!

The entries are coming in slowly but surely but with only 2 weeks until the day don't delay in getting your entry form in. If you are unable to get to the bank to pay you can pay in cash at Kings Property Management office!

If you are unable to take part in the walk but would like to take part on the day then we are looking for fund raising stalls - we will provide the table on the street outside Roberts/Harveys and you can do something that will raise money for the charities.....stalls we have so far include - tombola, cake stall, kids second hand toys, virgin vie, etc

We are looking for things that will entertain the adults and children whislt the ladies are walking as well as raising money and awareness for such a good cause.

Emma Harvey walking in memory of a brave young girl Samantha Hughes who died of Neuroblastoma, a rare but deadly cancer that only effects children. She had just turned 5 when she died. http://www.georgies-fund.com/

We have our first entrants in "Walk for Life Costa Brava". Starting the ball rolling we have JULIE LOFTHOUSE & KAY KENYON both walking in support of their friend SEAMUS who is currently fighting cancer.

Although our official entry date is 1st September you can download the entry forms from our website now. T-shirts and other entry information is not available until the 1st September.

We have added this new blog to our website to enable us to keep everyone updated with all the walk for life costa brava goings on!

We are in the final stages of preparing for entries - Entry dates 1 - 19 th September 2008.

We also are very excited with the response to our www.justgiving/walkforlifecostabrava online sponsor form. Thank you very much for those who have sponsored us so far!

We would like to sat a HUGE thank you to VICTORIA WREN (freelance designer) for our fantastic website and promotional posters. You can hire her for freelance work http://www.vww2.com/ She is based here in Torroella de Montgri and as you can see from our website is a fantastic designer!!
